In the mid-1990's, engineers at SONY had discovered a new digital recording technique called Direct Stream Digital or DSD in which the commercial version Super Audio CD or SACD are based. DSD has the advantage of being "future proof" compared to our present ubiquitus PCM digital. By the time Super Audio CD / SACD became a commercial reality, SONY used their DSD technology to release to us - the public consumer - a medium similar in size to 16 bit 44.1 Khz. sampled CD but with much superior sound quality. Most of these releases are Jazz and Classical recordings made during the "Golden Age of Stereo" like Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" and Glenn Gould's Bach piano works. It has been rumored that SONY also released classic Heavy Metal recordings from their acquired CBS catalogue like Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne's solo career. If you see one of these next time, snap them up immediately because they're as rare as hen's teeth.VaneSSahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09903333054433459032noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5047085949802013764.post-6857827217907973232007-10-29T01:42:00.000-07:002007-10-29T01:42:00.000-07:00Have you seen adauction.ph ads on TV? There's a rumor going around in the Philippine Audiophile Blogosphere that second hand SACD (Super Audio CD) versions of Judas Priest's "British Steel" and Ozzy Osbourne's "Diary of a Madman". You know, one of those released by Sony Music as one of their CBS acquired "classics" analogue master tape transfered to DSD (Direct Stream Digital) marketing opus. My on-line audiobuddies say adauction.ph had "flogged" these items on their website back in 2005. But as I visited adauction.ph homepage, they didn't "published" their start-up date unlike some on-line stores like www.AudioWeb.com which say's that they date back to 1994. The adauction.ph site is legit though because they are registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission. Two weeks ago I visited adauction.ph website. As I click the books/music/instruments section I found CREED's Greatest Hits CD / DVD priced at PhP250 marked down from it's original price of PhP450.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15192732234923372968noreply@blogger.com
